Computing Curriculum
At Rowlatts Mead, we enable children to become skilful Computer Scientists. We engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of learning in Computing while also equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed throughout their education and to prepare them for a world shaped by technology.
Our curriculum encompasses computer science, information technology, and digital literacy, ensuring that our children become creators, not just consumers, of technology. At Rowlatts Mead, we follow the Kapow Computing scheme of work, which has a proven success in helping children master key computing techniques while building the confidence to stay safe online. The scheme allows clear progression across the school and ensures that all skills required by the National Curriculum are taught. Each year, pupils build upon their prior learning, giving them a strong foundation for their future computing education.
We also recognise that children are exposed to a wide range of technology and interactive media from a young age. Therefore, we model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly, and safely. We believe that the best prevention for many of the challenges linked to technology and social media is through education.

Online Safety is central to our curriculum. It is taught explicitly and revisited regularly from the Foundation Stage through to Year 6 so that children understand the choices they can make and how to keep themselves safe online. By teaching this alongside high-quality computing skills, we aim for all our pupils to leave Rowlatts Mead as confident, creative, and responsible digital citizens.
