PSHE Curriculum Intent

At Rowlatts Mead, our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education) curriculum is designed to develop the whole child, nurturing their social, emotional, and moral growth alongside academic learning. Through carefully planned and relevant lessons, children engage in discussions, reflection, and practical activities that help them understand themselves, their relationships, and the wider world.
Our lessons are tailored to the needs of our pupils, ensuring that learning is meaningful, engaging, and age-appropriate. Each unit builds progressively on the previous one, allowing children to revisit key themes and deepen their understanding over time. For example, the topic of bullying is explored in Year 4 through the lens of Justin Bieber, while in Year 6, it is revisited through scenario-based lessons that challenge pupils to apply their knowledge and empathy in real-world situations.

We integrate British values throughout the curriculum, promoting respect, responsibility, democracy, and tolerance as essential life skills. By fostering self-reflection, empathy, and critical thinking, our PSHE curriculum helps children develop into thoughtful, resilient, and confident individuals, equipped to navigate life’s challenges and contribute positively to their communities.
